Beaver Lake in Mill Neck is the third largest lake in Nassau and has clean, fresh water. The lake harbors a good variety of fish, including Yellow Perch, Pumpkinseed, American Eel, and very large Carp, and an assortment of frogs. Many birds use its waters, notably Ospreys, Double-crested Cormorants, Canada Geese, and ducks such as American Wigeon, Gadwalls, Wood Ducks, and Ruddy Ducks. Mute Swans are residents and White Pelican, Snow Goose, and Barnacle Goose have been seen here.

Ummm, this dam was created much earlier than the 70s -- I remember driving over it in kindergarten, which was 1963.
