island, volcano
Also known as Rakata or Krakatoa is a volcanic island and a one third remnant of the much bigger volcano which was erupted in 1883. Two third of the volcano was obliterated by the 1883 cataclysmic eruption. Its explosion is considered as the loudest sound ever heard in modern history. In 1927 a new island, Anak Krakatau, emerged from the caldera formed by the 1883 eruption in the north of this island.
