  • The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is a de facto independent republic located in northern Cyprus within the internationally recognised borders of the Republic of Cyprus. The TRNC declared its independence in 1983, nine years after the Turkish invasion of Cyprus following an attempt to unite the island with Greece. It is dependent on and recognized only by Turkey.
