Bairro de Massaranduba (Salvador)

English: Having taken it's name from the trees that grew in the clay-rich soil, whose fruits were fought over by children, the neighborhood of Massaranduba is set upon the Itapagipana peninsula between the neighborhoods of Ribeira, Bonfim, Jardim Cruzeiro, and the Bay of All Saints. Its first homes were erected on stilts over the swamp. By the beginning of the 1940's, landfill was brought in from Ribeira and its urbanization began by the next decade. Her flat streets, like all others of the peninsula, have the air of a city in the interior. The squares of Redenção and Massaranduba, and the little church of Saõ Jorge are places of leisure and devotion for its residents.
