Canada's largest alcohol and drug recovery centre founded as Charity House by Father Paul Charbonneau in 1964. In 1983 the former Elmwood Casino property was purchased after being closed for a number of years and in disrepair. Following extensive renovations the centre opened in 1984 with accomodations for 150-175 people.

The original art deco styled Elmwood Hotel opened in the late 1940s with 103 rooms on an 11 ac. lot. During it's heyday in the 50s and 60s many top name entertainers highlighted the nightly floor shows including, Tom Jones, Tony Bennett, Liberace, Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis Jr., Milton Berle, Wayne Newton and Englebert Humperdink. No longer able to afford the stars it supported over the years, long time owner Al Siegel was forced to close the Elmwood in December 1974.
