The installation serves for adapting the provisioning in energy (constant) for the nuclear power station of 'Tihange' to the (variable) needs of the network.
Six turbines are lined up in a rock cut out engine room of 128 m long, 22 m wide and 40 m high. They can work as turbine or pump.

Built: 1967-1980.
Pump flow: 415 m³ per second.
Turbine flow: 500 m³ per second.
Capacity: 1100 MegaWatt
