Isle Haute, also known as Ile Haute, is a flat-topped island in the Bay of Fundy with a plateau about 100m above sea level.

Popular for a time among treasure-hunters and rumoured to be home to a headless ghost, Isle Haute was home to lighthouse-keepers and their families from 1878 to 1956, when the lighthouse and dwelling were destroyed in a fire. An automated navigation beacon was then installed to replace the lighthouse.

The island is also home to some Mi'kmaq archealogical sites, and is protected by numerous laws. Visitors are not permitted without permission of the Canadian Coast Guard.

  • I may be wrong, but I think that Isle Haute may be the Northern Hemisphere's southernmost island that is normally surrounded by sea ice in winter. This does not take into account the islands of Minas Basin, which are actually high points of the tidal flats.
