Part of the Largest Horizontal Crane in the world (Town of North Hempstead)


These parts have since been assembled to make the largest horizontal crane in the world which is being used to rebuild the Roslyn Viaduct Bridge over Hempstead Harbor. It has now (1/09) just completed the north side roadway and retaining walls are being put in place. Next is the southern roadbed so someday soon (!) it will be completely rebuilt. We heard that this crane travels throughout the world with its own crew. It has now been about two years since these parts were actually barged into the end of the Harbor here and staged for reassembly. Maybe future shots will be updated to see how wide and long this crane actually is and give one an idea of its pickup strength and capacity.
