Boulders Bush Lodge (Kruger NP)-National Park
This secluded bush lodge at the foot of a large granite boulder overlooking a private water hole offers visitors a slice of bushveld to call their own. The lodge is comfortable and unfenced; the entire camp is raised on concrete pillars that ensure your safety without compromising on the feeling of true wilderness. Electricity is provided by solar panels and all cooking is done on gas so that no noisy generator interrupts your quiet time. The lodge can accommodate 12 guests, but you have to book the entire lodge. With only 2 park staff members in residence, who clean the facilities and service the rooms, means that you are left to your own devices. Kudu, impala, giraffe and a variety of other game visit the water hole, allowing for great sightings from the comfort of your deck chair. At night, look for galagos (bushbabies) and listen for nightjars. Zebra, wildebeest, eland, kudu, and a collection of other game are all relatively common. This is also a good area for cheetah. You may have to scratch around for lion in this area, although elephant are usually quite easily spotted. Leopard are seen fairly regularly, as are buffalo herds. Rhino are rarely seen in the area. Boulders is small and quiet, situated in thick mopane and bushwillow woodlands. This means that birds literally flit through camp without noticing you; in particulare it is good for African scops and pearl-spotted owls, woodland kingfisher (in summer), grey-headed bush shrike and others. www.sanparks.org/parks/kruger/camps/boulders/ Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kruger_National_Park Category: camp animals birdwatching nature conservation park / area
