This is the DPRK's premiere cement factory. It was constructed in collaboration with an East German company from 1984 to 1988 and opened in April 1989. It produces Portland cement with an estimated annual yield of 3 to 4 million tons of cement. It was once a state owned enterprise (SOE) subordinate to the Central Committee of the KWP. In April 2008, the Orascom Construction Company bought 50% of the Central Committee's ownership in the Sangwon Cement Complex.
