fishing area, campsite / caravan site
Point Plomer lies midway between Port Macquarie and Crescent Head on the New South Wales Mid North Coast. The area is managed by the New South Wales Parks and Wildlife, and a fee is charged to enter the park ($7 per day or you can buy a pass if you are staying for longer - valid for upto two years).
A fantastic caravan park lies between the main beach and Back Beach (as it is known). The area is known for its spectacular surfing, fishing, swimming and bushwalking. It is also a treat for photographs.
At certain times of the year, the area is passed by migrating whales. Dolphins can be seen frolicking most of the year round.
The main road way from Cresent Head is dirt and accessible with a 2WD car, but is quite corrugated. An alternative route from Port Macquarie from the south exists, but should only be attempted with a 4WD vehicle (and it is advisable to avoid during periods of rain).
Beach access for people wishing to 4WD is now forbidden on the main beach, but access further south is available. A permit is required and can be obtained from Port Macquarie council for a fee of around $25 per year (daily and weekly are also available).
