The Castle Vale Primary Care Medical and Resource Centre provides a range of community health facilities in Castle Vale, and was part of a local regeneration scheme aimed at uplifting the estate.
The two storey building has a large waiting area at ground floor and facilities for a GP practice including a minor surgical unit, enhanced community and adult health services and a child and family resource centre. The first floor accommodation provided offices and administration facilities for community services including health visitors, district nurses together with a 24 hour vulnerable witness protection suite available for the police. The existing health centre on the suite was demolished and temporary facilities were provided on an adjacent site until the new accommodation was available. The building is approximately 1500 m2 and was procured via the NHS Procure21 framework with Costains appointed as the supply chain partner.
It was constructed for Eastern Birmingham Primary Care Trust at a cost of £3.3 million, and completed in 2004. Gilling Dod Architects were the designers.
