Caboto Club (Windsor, Ontario)

Southwestern Ontario's oldest and largest Italian club was founded in 1925. After being located at several other locations the club erected a new building at 2175 Parent Avenue in 1950. In 1972 additional land was purchased including the former Phil Wood Industries and Great Lakes Die Casting properties and the club was expanded. In 1986 the size of the building was doubled.

The 100,000 sq. ft. building features 9 distinctly unique banquet rooms which can accomodate 3,000 people for weddings, trade shows, charity galas and business meetings. The club also includes four indoor bocci ball courts, raquet ball and squash courts and a sauna.

The club also operates Caboto Park on the shore of Lake Erie near Colchester Ontario. Purchased in 1958 the park features a swimming pool, picnic areas and bocci ball courts.

Phil Wood Industries

The western part of the present Caboto Club property was the site of Phil Wood Industries (857 Tecumseh Road East) from 1922 until the early 1970s. Originally established by Garfield Wood, the inventor of a hydraulic hoist to dump trucks by power replacing hand cranking, to supply his product to the Canadian market, Gar Wood Industries built dump truck bodies, truck and trailer hydraulic equipment and the 1st. rear compacting garbage truck. The name was changed to Phil Wood Industries in 1946, after a brother of Garfield Wood and was sold to International Tool in 1958.
