Al Sadeer Hotel (Baghdad City)

Iraq / Bagdad / Baghdad / Baghdad City

Formerly the Sadeer Novotel Hotel Baghdad. Like the other Western operated hotels in Baghdad, this hotel had no connection to the actual Novotel chain after the 1991 Iraq War, but continued to use the name without permission for nearly 20 years.

  • I lived here for about 3 months in 1984 while working at New Baghdad Power Station. I moved out to rented house near by and lived there for a further 3 1/2 years. Happy times for me as I was able to travel and work in most parts of Iraq and meet many people as well as see many places of interest. The Novotel Hotel was not bad but I was glad to move out. • Stayed there frequently from 1982 til 1986 on 13 trips for an average of 4 weeks per trip. Hotel had a very acceptable standard, good value und very polite and effective staff. Clean and well maintained. No complain about food. From time to time, they had french wine and even fried froglegs (!) at reasonable prices. Much more cosy and personal than the Melia Mansoor and the Sheraton (within walking distance). The bus station Andalus Square is just in front of the hotel. Always nice talks to the expats at the bar. Well, that was more than 30 years ago. How is the situation today? Would like to meet the great and friendly people of Iraq again and visit the ancient places of Babylon, Samarra and Borsippa. How safe is the situation now? Herb
  • Hi Al-Sadeerians, I visited this hotel a few weeks a time, since 1981, several years. Breakfast (sunshine up fried eggs), dinners (entrecote and bordeaux wines), and the bar. I saw the tennis courts being built, and many wedding parties. Good service, always! Friendly pool attendants from Sri Lanka and Mumbai. Sometimes walked to Sheraton, the bar at up. Sprite!
  • Hi, I was living there many times between 1983 and 1988, longest period was 3 months. Nice memories. Laszlo Czebely from Hungary.
