Prónay Palace, Acsa (Acsa)

Hungary / Nygrad / Bercel / Acsa

On a small hill, in the former park you can find the Prónay Palace and some of its outbuildings.
The palace was built between 1735-50 in Baroque style, by Gábor Prónay I. The palace was continuously inhabited and modernized by the successors. In the 19th century an annex - a bathhouse - was built to the main building, and the farm-buildings were built at the same time. In 1860 the main building was complete reconstructed in Neo-baroque style. In the 1940-ies the building was modernized again.
During the Second World War the Front passed through the village several times. A military hospital was set up in the palace. The park was bombed, and nothing remained from the internal equipment and furniture. Till the end of 1940-ies the palace belonged to the army, it was a closed area and used as military repository.
After 1989 the National Treasury took over the palace.
