B.R.Karkera: Born in 1893. Member Karnataka P.C.C. Was Secy. in 1949-55 and Jt.Secy D.C.C President Town C.C., Vice President Dist. Board. Municipal Councillor(1951), Vice President South Kanara Dist. Board(1954). Entered Congress in 1923. Elected Member Municipal Board at Jorhat in 1936. Again in 1939 elected Member Municipal Board at Tezpur. Inspired successfully the tribal M.L.A's to join congress and break down Saadulla Ministry. Worked hard for flood relief at Assam. Took keen interest in social welfare, Harijan's Temple entry(Kudroli Temple) and uplift of the villagers. Mangalore Dasara was started by B.R.Karkera.
