This is the largest of the North Shore Islands of Antigua. It is still undeveloped and is home to many species of wildlife. It was named by English settlers from Guyana in about 1667. The island was owned by Charles Tudway of Parham Hill estate in the mid 18th century. In 1812, Sir William Codrington III bought the island and it remained within the Codrington family until 1929. Today the island is uninhabited.

  • Officials confirmed Monday that an outlying island and an additional patchwork of land parcels on the Antiguan mainland are owned by financier R. Allen Stanford, complicating a looming fight over the billionaire's assets with a US receiver. Attorney General Justin Simon confirmed that the 184-hectare Guiana Island and 445 hectares on Antigua's mainland are controlled by Stanford, who Simon said acquired the properties last year from a Malaysian investor.
