Historic hotel established in 1908 as the Grand Hotel De Djokdja. The current building was constructed in 1938. During the Japanese occupation, it was renamed the Hotel Asahi. In 1945, it was renamed the Merdeka Hotel and served as the de-facto capital building of Indonesia for a time. In 1950 it was again renamed the Hotel Garuda. The seven story tower at the rear was added in 1984. It later became the Hotel Grand Inna Garuda, and then the Grand Inna Malioboro
