nellikulam peak-nilgiri tahr habitatthese grassland shola system of nelliyampathy region is another hide out for the
endengered nilgiri tahr.when i was trekking these area 1994 i found around 8-10 nilgiri tahr in one group .those who are interested in normal type tourism(i mean pure enjoyment ,shouting ,dancing, alcohol, breaking the glass bottle on the rock --) my humble request please avoid visit to this area, kesavan para view, and seethargundu view is suitable for you., 5 hours of extreme trekking from padagiri needed to reach this divine land .you could see kurinji flowers also here.(both neelakurinji-strobilanthus cunthiyanum..and white kurinji).. if you are very silent trekker you could see herds of elephants and bisons. i saw many type of rhododendron, and orchids on the montane sholas. actually i am little hesitant to post this because i fear the evils of commercial tourism will spoil these virgin area if people without any nature awareness roam through here.this is the high time to establish this area as 'GRASS LAND SHOLA RESERVE ' to protect both nilgiri tahr and the entire 25 sq.km grasshill sholas from further damage. i hope the nature lovers and government authorities will read this and do the necessary steps soon.nellikulam peak is the highest point in this region followed by karimala gopuram peak near parambikulam dam and minnampara grass near seethar gundu. nazir200@hotmail.com
