The building occupies a quarter of the Stables courtyard area between the Konyushennaya square, Konyushenny lane, Moika, and Griboyedov Canal. The first building here was built in 1720-1723 under the project of NF Gerbel, who posted a new indoor stables, barns and housing for the servants. Corps court stables were built until 1734, with the participation of MG Zemtsov. It is because of the existence of this stables courte were named Konyushenny lane, Konyushennaya square, Bol'shaya and Malaya Konyushennaya street.
The main facade was in the northern part of the building. He repeated bending river sinks, and therefore turned south facade with a bend. Northern housing included octagonal tower, crowned by a dome which copper plating figure horse. At the Stables courtyard of the church was consecrated on Holy Face image.
The original building was one of the Stables courtyard of the largest and most representative in the area. However, over time, became the center area of St. Petersburg, the old building ceased to comply with its architectural surroundings. At the end of 1750h's building retrofit project was Antonio Rinaldi, but this project was not implemented. In 1782 Catherine II project was approved the restructuring of the building architect Trambara. In 1785, began trading on the supply of materials, but in 1787, all construction works were stopped here. In 1804, the project of restructuring the building worked L. Ruska, who proposed to build a monumental temple with a portico, dome and belfry in the center of the south facade, the building was designed in classic style. But due to lack of funds and this project could not be implemented fully.
In 1816, a survey of the building took VP Stasov. In the same year he was appointed chief builder of the stables and drafted their restructuring. The work was conducted from 1817 to 1823 using the old walls. The stables are located by the sinks. They have been applied technological innovation: cast-iron columns and floors, water supply steam engine. In the halls of watering have been installed granite bowl of Samson Sukhanov. Along the Catherine Canal was placed riding on the opposite side - an arcuate body with a colonnade of 22 columns. Following the restructuring was the main southern facade. The ground floor houses the studios, and secondly - Apartment officials. After completion of all construction work in 1823 building facades were painted light gray with white details.
Imperial stables were famous thoroughbreds. This is where the horse chose to work with nature to create Etienne Falconet "Bronze Horseman", two horses picked PK Klodt when working on sculptures for Anichkov bridge.
In 1865 the building was partially Stables yard redone on the project, GF Gross.
In the years 1898-1904 there was a baron Mannerheim. He served a five-room service apartment. In 1903 he moved into the building on the other side of the Stables Square (house number 2).
In 1917 the building of the stables was stationed 4th Company of the Pavlovsky regiment, which is February 26 this year, led the fight with the police on the embankment of the Catherine Canal in the Konyushennaya square.
In the years 1948-1951 the building was restored stables. Here is the State Automobile Inspection of Dzerzhinsky district. Currently the premises occupied by police control of St. Petersburg and Leningrad region.
