A lake which caters to the irrigational needs of almost 1/4 th of Kanyakumari Dist. One of the biggest lakes in the district. Also appearing North to south is village of Theroor. It is the birth place of well known Tamil Poet Kavimani. History has it that God Indira landed in this place and parked his chariot (`Ther' in Tamil) here, hence the name.

This village is surrounded by paddy fields. Suchindrum is just 1.5 Kms to the south. This small village has one hospital, well stocked library,a few temples(vananthittu temple, Azhakamman temple),post office, bus stand,and a village civil station (office). The road which goes through the lake and the village connects the Kanyakumari highway with Thrunelveli highway. The climate is very pleacent. |

one of the well known naval officer,commander.subramania thanumalaya perumal was born here.he joined the indian navy as a boy in 1965 and retired as a commander in 2003.he,who fought the indo-pak war in 1971 and he was one of the commissioning crew member of 'INS VIRAAT' in 1986 and he stayed in UNITED KINGDOM for one year.after retirement,he has been selected to be the administator of DR.TMA PAI INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CENTRE at MG road manglore,by the MANIPAL ACADEMY OF HIGHER EDUCATION,manipal.
