Hitachi Global Storage Technologies was founded in 2003 and was formed as a result of the strategic combination of IBM and Hitachi’s storage technology businesses. In 2012 Western Digital purchased Hitachi Global Storage Technologies and changed the name to HGST as a wholly owned division of Western Digital. Current plans are to integrate HGST and WD together once all regulatory demands worldwide have been met.

Comments

  • This location is currently undergoing development and will be a mixture of commercial, retail and residential properties. Hitachi GST remains on site in a smaller portion of the former IBM campus.
  • Seems like a reason for Hitachi to leave all together. The value of the land will be too much and they will leave like other things have in the Bay Area.
  • This is not formerly the IBM Almaden Research Center, which still exists and is in a different location. It is the former site of the IBM Cottle Road facility.
