Built in Canada, she was the most powerful icebreaker in the world when launched in 1947. Built to ferry trains to Prince Edward Island, the 372 ft Abegweit (the native name for PEI) weighed 7000 tons and was a capable of stowing 16 railroad cars, or 60 automobiles. Retired in 1981, she now serves as the clubship of the Columbia Yacht Club.
