The Old Bahia Honda Bridge was built when Henry Flagler built the Overseas Railroad, an extension of the Florida East Coast to Key West. The bridge served as a railroad bridge until 1935, when the Labor Day Hurricane devastated the railway. The bridge was converted into a highway bridge in 1938.
In 1972, the new bridge was constructed and the bridge was abandoned once again. Parts of it are removed to facilitate sailboat traffic. Popular fishing pier.
