grave, interesting place
At the foot of the tree there's a small gravestone (now ina protective case) in memory of Giro, Dr Leopold von Hoesch's Alsatian. The building next door (9 Carlton House Terrace) was formerly the German Embassy, and Dr Von Hoesch was German Ambassador from 1932 until his death in 1936. Giro died after chewing through a live electrical cable, and although the buildings were heavily bombed during the Second World War, the grave survived.
