  • The dorm was originally called "Alpha Hall" and was the first dorm built at the University when it first opened in 1959. Interestingly, it has an old Nuclear War Fallout Shelter underneath it, which has not been maintained or used for anything, and still had Civil Defence supplies in it up until the late 1980s.
  • It's funny you mention about the basement. When I was living there a couple years ago, the elevator had gotten unlocked one day so it allowed access to the basement. Me and a friend went down there and searched around. It definitely looked like a fallout shelter, and had tons of old stuff in it. They seemed to be using it to store broken chairs from the dorm rooms.
  • To be honest, I think the University tends to forget it exists. I'm willing to be those chairs were there when I was a quarter century ago. Sooooo....I guess the lesson is if anyone wants free chairs that no one will miss...
