This Tewa ruin dates from approximately 1225 A.D. The ancestors of the modern Pueblo Indians (now populating the Pueblos along the Rio Grande), the Tewas built with blocks carved from “tuff,” welded volcanic ash commonly available in this area. The block structure adjacent to the ruin is the Ranch School firehouse, built using the ruin’s blocks to house a man-powered pump truck.
