Poorest neighbourhood in Canada. Ground zero for drug users, especially intravenous heroin and other drugs addicts, who can be seen shooting up on the streets in broad daylight. As a result, it also has the highest rate of HIV infection in the western world.

  • Also home to lots of friendly people! This place gets a bad rap, but it's not nearly as scary as it seems. Lots of good places to grab a quick bite to eat and some good bars.
  • also a great place to wander around and find some of the few surviving remnants of the history of our 'wonderful' city. but . . . alas, i would suggest having a look sooner than later as i am sure very soon it will all sadly be demolished for more faceless and sterile developments in the future.
  • this is craptown
  • A total shithole.
  • @Ira That's really unfair to the hood. I live in the DTES, and I can find more variety in great food in the 3 blocks on either side of my house than nearly anywhere else in Canada. Yeah, there are heroin users shooting up in broad daylight. Yeah, H, Crack and other hard drugs are easy to find around here. But Dan is right, tons of great places to grab a quick bite a bunch of great bars.
