Camp Warehouse (Kabul)

Afghanistan / Kabul / Bagrami / Kabul
 military, warehouse, barracks

Camp Warehouse is about 30 minutes away from what used to Camp Julien on the other side of Kabul. In 2004 it was home to a primarily Canadian detachment of about three hundred individuals who's mission is to man the operations center at the camp and help coordinate the multi-national forces in and around Kabul. They also maintained the Signal Operations Center coordinating ISAF Aircraft and patrols.

Another job of the Canadians at Warehouse is to guard what ISAF has termed T.V. Hill, an area above Kabul where some ISAF communication towers are located.

As of August 2006, Warehouse was still under ISAF control coordinating ISAF units through the Joint Operations Center and conducting excercises like simulated IED attacks on ISAF patrols. Additionally there was a newly constructed military hospital operational at Camp Warehouse.

On August 21, 2008 French President Nikolas Sarkozy visited Camp Warehouse after a deadly attack left 10 French Paratroopers dead and another 21 wounded. He expressed his condolences to the other members of the French unit at Warehouse and met with Afghan President Hamid Karzai. Sarkozy reiterated his commitment to Afghanistan even in the face of such tragic losses. It was the worst attack on French Military since the 1983 Beirut bombing.
