Marina (San Francisco, California)

Created as landfill for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition. The Palace of Fine Arts, at the western edge, is a reproduction of the last remaining building from the fair. After the fair, the site was developed as a residential neighborhood.

Known by some as a yuppie neighborhood, and centered on Chestnut Street, this area is also known for its stores, bars, and restaurants, and people watching.
This area suffered damage in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.
