Built in 1844 by goldsmith and jewelry importer Robert Campbell, the home was purchased in the 1860s by holtelier Zenus Barnum. It then passed through the hands of several notable merchants and physicians until the later part of the 20th century when it was converted into apartments.
Currently the building serves as the headquarters for The German Society of Maryland.
