USA / Ohio / Landen / Mason, Ohio
roller coaster, historical layer / disappeared object

Son of Beast was a record breaking roller coaster located at Kings Island amusement park. It was constructed in 2000, and broke the world records for height and speed for a wooden coaster. It was also the world's only looping wooden coaster at the time. The loop was removed in 2006 after an incident in which 27 people were injured. After another major incident in 2009, the ride closed indefinitely. In 2012, the ride structure was fully demolished.

The land on which it used to sit is now occupied by Banshee, the world's longest inverted coaster.

Comments

  • You will not catch me on this ride...I feel that it was doomed from the start...tornado knocked a portion of the track down and the the accident with the loop. Forget it.
  • News reports in 2012 - ride will be removed. KI has had so many problem rides.
  • It's history now, hopefully Cedar Fair will put something grand in it's place, there's certainly plenty of room. This coaster had mechanical problems from the start, it wasn't until my third visit of the '00 season around July 4th that I finally got a ride. My last ride was late in the '01 season, and it had gotten extremely rough riding by then, even by wooden coaster standards.
  • The Banshee is coming to the grounds of the Son of Beast.
