Roncesvalles (Little Poland) (Toronto, Ontario)

One of the oldest Polish neighbourhoods in the city, still has many Polish businesses but the area has seen a decline since new Polish areas have arisen especially in the west of the city. The neighbourhood is in a state of transition though as one of the older neighbourhoods has some very nice examples of Architecture especially of the Toronto Bay-n-Gable (mix of Italianate and Gothic Revival) as well as the Neo-Tudor and further out Queen Anne.
Roncesvalles has transitioned into a family oriented neighbourhood with stroller traffic close to needing a dedicated lane on the sidewalks. Excellent green grocers abound with very competitive pricing.

  • I have lived in the west end of the old city of Toronto my whole life and I have never heard this neighborhood called "Little Poland". Yes there were lots of Polish people at one point but everyone I know has always called it "Roncie".
