Pub founded in 1666 but the present building is mid 19th century.
Said to be one of the places where Jack the Ripper picked up his victims

  • Nowhere near where JTR picked up any of his victims but fairly close to where most would have lodged.
  • this pub used to be called "Jack The Ripper" back in the 1960's after the landlord changed the name to capitalise on the popularity of the "ripper walks" that used to pass through the area. It is widely believed that some of Jack The Rippers victims would have used the Pub, however, as many of his victims were prostitutes it is unlikely that they used this pub for socialising, it was more likely to have been for the purposes of solicitoring business. Because of a vast number of complaints from feminists and public pressure groups, the name was changed back to the Ten Bells
