Ko Taphao Noi is a sanctuary for hornbills and protected by the national park services. The island has a lighthouse at the southern end of the island ridge. On the northern side of the ridge is a small fort built by the Japanese during their occupation leading up to World War II. A single canon replica is displayed among the stone structure. Visitors to the island should contact the national park prior to arrival and bring their own supplies as the island does not have any shops.
