Danapur, sometimes known as Dinapur, located on on the right bank of the Ganges, is a satellite town of Patna in Bihar state of India. In 1857 the sepoy garrison of the place initiated the rebellion (a part of the Indian Rebellion of 1857) in Patna district, but after a conflict with the European troops the sepoys were forced to retire from the town, and subsequently laid siege to Arrah. It is the Headquarters of Bihar Regiment of Indian Army. Danapur is also a Division of Eastern Central Zone of Indian Railway. The Divisional Railway Manager's (DRM) office is situated near Danapur Railway station. The area surrounding this station is called Khagaul. The Danapur Cantonment and Danapur City are 5 kilometers away. There is also a Degree College, namely Bindeswari Singh College, affiliated with Magadh University, Bodh-Gaya .

Danapur is the Cantonment town adjacent to Patna in Bihar. It is one of the oldest European cantonments in the region. It was the only white cantonment of the East India Company between at one point of time. It was the largest military cantonment in Bengal, with accommodation for two batteries of artillery, a European and a native infantry regiment.
