California State Department of Developmental Services
State facility that provides services to people with developmental disabilities who require concentrated health care and/or training to develop skills in which to enhance their independence. It is not a state hospital like Patton. The patients (residents) here are not mentally unstable or have behavioral health issues. The residents here are developmentally handicapped/disabled. Many residents here were 'normal' at one time but due to accidents and injury they became unable to care for themselves. Others were simply born with the disabilities and were "dropped off" by parents or other caretakers who didn't want to deal with them. Here, they are loved and cared for very well. The staff here are great people with big hearts. It's a shame though, that this facility is due to be shut down by the state to save money in the near future.
