Saint Simon and Saint Jude parish church, Tignish, Prince Edward Island. Built in 1859-60 by the parish and the pastor, Rev. Peter McIntyre, following a design by American-Irish architect Patrick Keely of New York. This huge neo-Gothic church was built of locally-made brick, local timber and even local limestone was burnt for the lime. In 1888 the interior was completely decorated with religious scenes and symbols and life-size statues of the 12 apostles in illusionary niches by a Montreal artist F Meloche. At the time of construction a complete set of stained glass windows were installed by a New York firm, Messrs Morgan and Brothers. In 1882 a large tracker-action pipe organ built by Louis Mitchell of Montreal was installed and is still used for liturgy and recitals today.

The parish is in a remote location and the people are proud of their church which they maintain scrupulously, often expending large sums on restoration when needed. A visit to this site is a fine experience.
