Thuthapuzha River is one of the main tributaries of the Bharathapuzha River, the second-longest river in Kerala, south India. Kunthipuzha that flows through the Silent Valley is one of its tributaries. Elamkulam, Thiruvegappura and Pulamanthole are places of importance situated on the bank of this river.

Thiruvegappura is a Valluvanad village on the bank of river Thutha, a tributary to the Bharathapuzha River, serving as the gateway to Palakkad District, for inboard traffic from the northern Malabar districts of Kerala. Located in the Palakkad district of Kerala, India, Thiruvegappura is famous for a Lord Siva Temple, built around the 14th century, with three flag masts as the unique speciality. Lord Sankaranarayana and Lord Vishnu are the other main deities of the temple. An exquisite Koothambalam (Temple theatre), exemplifying the beauty of the Kerala architecture was added probably around the 15th century. This place claims of great heritage in the annals of Kerala history. World renowned Guru Natyācharya Vidūshakaratnam Padma Shri Mani Madhava Chakyar used to perform Chakyar Koothu and Koodiyattam here for decades.

It is a historical fact that the famous Sanskrit scholar, Thiruvegappura Anayath Krishna Pisharody was considered as the Guru(teacher) of Manavedan Raja, the then Zamorin Raja of Kozhikode who conceived the classical dance drama Krishnanattam based on his text Krishnageethi. Mahaakavi Ulloor mentioned about this in his Kerala Sahithya Charithram(chapter 33). Manavedan also mentioned about his Guru Anayath Krishna Pisharody in his text Poorvabharatha Champu. A commentary to Poorvabharatha Champu, Krishneeyam, was composed apparently by Anayath Krishna Pisharoty.

The place is also known as the birth place of world famous magician Prof.Vaazhakunnam, Chenda maestro Thiruvegappura Rama Poduval, poet and Shaakunthalam translator Cheruliyil Kunchunni Nambeesan and Scientist Dr. T.M.K. Nedungadi a student and close disciple of Nobel Laureate Prof. C.V.Raman.

Thiruvegappura is also famous for its historical importance. The Raayiranellur mountain temple - where Naaraanathu Bhraanthan (The lunatic prophet - one of the great twelve sons of Vararuchi) of the Parayi petta panthirukulam lived and taught his philosophy to society in his own way - and the Bhraanthaachalam temple (dwelling place of Naaraanath Branthan) are historical attractions of this village.
