The Faculty of Engineering (Persian: دانشکده فني دانشگاه تهران) was first established through the efforts of great scientists such as Professor Mahmood Hessabi in 1934, and was developed by hardworking scholars such as Professor Hami and Mr. Bazargan. Faculty of Engineering is distinguished with a long history of trained conspicuous university scholars who have been instigating players in domestic social, economic, and political fields, and pioneers in global scientific community. These scholars made the Faculty of Engineering one of the most reputable scientific centers in Iran and middle-east. Today, the Faculty of Engineering with more than 70 years of history is proud of having about 22,000 educated and trained specialists.
Due to the wide scope of the educational and research activities, a variety of specialty fields and establishment of different research institutes, in the year 2005, the organizational framework of the Faculty of Engineering was restructured and six departments in this Faculty were promoted to the schools of engineering. Today, Faculty of Engineering is located in three campuses:
-Pardis 1 with an area of about 28,000 m2, including the Department of Basic Engineering Sciences, and the Schools of Civil and Chemical Engineering.
-Pardis 2 with an area of about 60,000 m2, including the Schools of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering and Mining Engineering, and the departments of Industrial Engineering, and Surveying and Geomatics Engineering.
-Pardis 3 with an area of about 7,000 m2 is a research and educational center specialized in pulp and paper and other fields of chemical engineering in undergraduate and graduate levels.
In addition to the above three campuses, Fooman Faculty of Engineering with an area of 70,000 m2 was donated to the Faculty by Mr. Abbas Mousavi Rahpeyma, Alumni of the year 1962 of the Faculty. In this campus, chemical, environmental, and industrial engineering, and biotechnology related undergraduate and graduate degree programs will be offered.
The students at the Faculty of Engineering have access to the Central Library of the University of Tehran, one of the richest libraries in Iran among all other academic centers with more than 600,000 books, 57000 handwritten scripts, historical documents, and books, and 3200 domestic as well as international periodicals. There are also three central libraries of Pardis 1, 2, and 3 and specialized libraries of the schools of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Metallurgy and Materials Engineering that provide students with invaluable resources including the latest domestic and international references and periodicals in all engineering fields.
By providing high speed internet access in the computer centers in all the schools and departments, the Faculty has attempted to facilitate students' access to the up-to-date scientific resources around the world
