Fan Mountain Observatory

Fan Mountain Observatory, of the University of Virginia's Department of Astronomy. This is the research observatory, and is closed to the public except for an open house held twice a year. It is free, but tickets are required (www.astro.virginia.edu/public_outreach/pubnite.html).

Three telescopes are currently located at Fan Mountain (actually Mount Oliver, in the Fan Mountains), a 40-inch astrometric reflector, a 31-inch infrared telescope, and a 10-inch astrograph).

Norfolk State University (sst.nsu.edu/physics.php) is erecting the 24-inch RRRT robotic telescope on the summit
