The southern end of the oval racing track, once capable of holding 100 000 people. You can still see the walls of the old Hippodrome by following the streets that lead down to the sea.
During the holy month of Ramadan (Ramazan), the Hippodrome turns into a giant block party upon sundown (when practicing Muslims break their fast). There's plenty of food, merchandise --and, given Turkey's secularism, even some alcohol. It's a great opportunity to see real people.
