Suffolk County once had its own horse race track that was in operation from 1977 until 1988.It is now blocked off to automobile traffic. The track itself can be found, as well as the huge parking lot for fans. If you didn't know what this once was, you would be perplexed as to why such a large paved parking lot exists in the middle of the pine barrens with nothing else around. <www.lioddities.com/Bygone/horsetrack.htm>

  • The Meadows was a fun place to get lost and forget about the world for awhile in. You felt like there was nothing around for miles. This is now the site of overpriced luxury apartments and condos called "The Reserve at the Boulevard".
