Buayang Bato Street in Pasig sits to the right of the border between Pasig City and Mandaluyong City. To the left of this border is Barangay Buayang Bato in Mandaluyong City. This place is significant because it is mentioned in the third chapter of Jose Rizal's El Filibusterismo.
The chapter (entitled "Legends") talks about how a Chinese was confronted by a crocodile (Buwaya in Tagalog) on the Pasig River. The Chinese (who did not believe in Christian gods) prays to San Nicolas, and the crocodile was instantly turned to stone (bato).
