Bowie is a small town with a population of approximately 650. Agriculture is the source of most jobs in the area. Local crops include: cotton, chile, garlic, pecans, pistachios, and grapes. The bowie school district has an enrolment of approximately 100 total students for grades K-12.

Areas of interest near Bowie include: Hot Springs/Sand Dunes – a popular ATV riding area, located 15 miles NE of Bowie. Historic Ft. Bowie, enjoyed by hikers and wildlife observers, is located 14 miles south of Bowie on Apache Pass Road.
