The Federal Service for Labor and Employment (Moscow)

Russia / Moscow / Moscow / Birzhevaya ploshchad
public institution, Art Nouveau / Jugendstil (architecture), interesting place, 1904_construction, 1913_construction

It was built in 1903-1904 by architect Fedor Shekhtelem in the modern style. This was originally the Ryabushinsky Bank. Made of reinforced concrete, the lower stories are faced in columns of light green colored glazed brick while a delicate band of decorations with tiny garlands topped by sea urchins runs just above the fourth level. Originally an attic, the fifth floor was converted for use when the wider sixth-story was added some years later. Then during Soviet times, the typical Russian overhang was added when the entrance was moved to the center.
