This is the oldest temple in Kanchi. Previously the Amman is very ferocious at looks and people are feared during late hours. It was during the visit of the Sage Adi Sankara who made an Enthram (Chakra) and established the new Kamakshi Amman Temple at the present location. This temple is covered on the right by Kumarakottam and on the left Raghu - Kethu temple besides n the front side Kamakshi Amman temple.
