Humboldt Senior High School opened in 1889 and moved into a new building in 1911, which has since been expanded. The school is well known for it's long running controversy over its historic "Indian" mascot and logo. The controversy was fueled by strong support from the community and even some support from the school's American Indian students for retention of the logo. After years of discussion, debate and controversy, the school board voted to change the mascot and logo to the "Hawks."
