This is the original location of Ann & Hope, a department store chain in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. A&H can be credited for many innovations which can now be seen in big box stores, including vast parking lots, shopping carts, and self-service shopping (the customer could look at items without the aid of an attendent). It was built into an old manufacturing building. It's memorable for its multiple-story shopping, with a unique chain-operated carraige lift to bring carriages up and down between the 2 shopping levels.

Ann & Hope went out of buisness in 2001, but new Ann & Hope branded outlets, such as the "Curtain and Bath Outlet" occupy the upper story. The basement level now houses a Building #19 discount outlet.
