  • Tecumseh's birthplace is 750 yards south of this motel. There is an historic marker in the small parking lot immediately adjacent (north) of the soccer fields. In addition, a few hundred yards south on opposite side of the road are some additional historic markers. Lastly, a few hundred yards west of this location is a slight rise. On this rise once stood the Council House for the Shawnee village of Old Chillithothe. This village was one of the most important Indian villages in Ohio. Between here and the Council House is where the famed Frontiersman, Simon Kenton, after being captured by the Shawnees, was forced to run the the first of six gauntlets as they moved him from Indian village to Indian village before he managed to escape... only to be captured once again.
